With a career on photography that spans over five decades, Pedro Meyer is one of the most widely recognized Mexican photographers. His work is extensive, with varied subject matter and styles. Throughout his life, Meyer has documented significant social events, such as the Mexican student movement of 1968, the guerrilla in Nicaragua and the tragic 1985 earthquake in Mexico City. He has also produced photographic portraits of celebrities of the cultural world, politicians, and of ordinary people during his many trips. Pedro Meyer is also known for producing works such as “Truths and Fictions”, the project that initiated his first digital imaging efforts, and as a pioneer on printing on non-photographic papers.

Along with other colleagues, Meyer founded the Mexican Council of Photography, which organized the first Latin American Colloquia of Photography. These events not only managed to place Latin American photography on the international artistic map, but also opened forums for debate on the photographic medium.

With Heresies, Meyer presents a retrospective that is simultaneously shown in more than sixty cities around the world, each featuring a different exhibition in content and structure. Twenty curators collaborated in the selection of the work. Each was devoted to exploring a portion of this vast photographic universe. In carrying this out, they transformed the traditional notions of curatorship and of the ways to approach a photographer’s body of work. One thousand pictures from the overall selection were made available for this exhibition, the majority of which had never been seen before.

The large-format prints comprise only one part of Heresies. In addition, the artist prepared several videos and 23 digital galleries corresponding to the subjects into which his work was divided for this project. These galleries can be visited at www.pedromeyer.com Also, House Lunwerg Editorial published the book Heresies, with over three hundred photographs selected by photographer Francisco Mata, as well as texts and reflections on Meyer’s work.
